Volvo’s natively integrating Spotify into their vehicles. Maybe it wasn’t video that killed the radio star, but the auto industry.
Volvo confirmed this morning that they will be the first car manufacturer to natively integrate Spotify into their vehicles, starting with the XC90, S90 and V90 models. The announcement was made at this weekend’s Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona, Spain. Despite what the name might suggest, it was a big weekend for cars: Ford announced their stake in autonomous cars as well as plans to enter the sharing economy, Samsung unveiled their smart-car-creating-dongle, and shared their ambitious plans to make 4K Virtual Reality video available for streaming in cars.
This isn’t the first big tech announcement Volvo has made in the past couple of weeks. Last week they revealed that they want to do away with car keys and use people’s smart phones instead. Between Samsung and Volvo, we might just be entering a world where people never have to lose their keys – at least, not for long – again.
I agree I love this app I do at times find the ads annoying but can put up with them, understanding they make Spotify money. I’m just glad it doesnt make my music jerky.
