Mini’s Superbowl commercial had A LOT to say.
On the car commercial front, there was a lot to write home about at last night’s Super Bowl 50.
There was Audi’s emotional R8 commercial that managed to pay homage to Bowie, sympathetically portray depression among the elderly, drive us all to tears, and make us want an Audi all at the same time (take notes, Volkswagen); Prius‘s grating but oddly effective “Heck on Wheels” musical number; Acura releasing a car commercial that was actually just about their car; Buick somehow featuring both OBJ and Emily Ratajkowski in an ad while putting the focus entirely on their Cascada convertible.
With a few exceptions, the clarion call of last night’s advertisements seemed to be, “We’re cool/fast/not for wimps [anymore].” Mini Cooper turned the message on its head – instead of adopting a new label, they challenged people to #defylabels.
Behold, Superbowl 50’s best car ad:
Well, Mini, we’re sold. Don’t mind if we do.
