The Cadillac Escalade is a luxury SUV made famous (or infamous, depending how you look at it) by rap artists in the early 2000s. But it’s not just gold toothed rhymers that love Escalades. They’re also well loved by country club goers and movie stars alike.
HISTORY OF THE ESCALADE
First Generation (1999-2001)
The first generation Escalade hit the boulevard in 1999 as a response to the Lincoln Navigator. It featured a 5.7L 8-cylinder engine, four-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. The interior featured plush leather seats as well as a booming Bose stereo system.
Second Generation (2002-2006)
Model year 2002 marked the introduction of the second generation Escalade. Two versions were made available: the short wheelbase EXV and the long wheelbase EXT. Engine options included a 5.3L 8-cylinder or 6.0L 8-cylinder mated to a 4-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive was standard with optional four-wheel drive available A sport utility truck was also offered, based on the Chevy Avalanche platform. As always, the Escalade could be had with many optional goodies including segment first factory-installed 20-inch chrome wheels, heated and cooled seats (front and back), heated and cooled cup holders, moon roof, as well as 2nd and 3rd row monitors.
Third Generation (2007-2014)
For 2007, the third generation Escalade featured a more rounded exterior and larger overall dimensions than the previous model. In addition, a new 6.2L 8-cylinder engine was tucked between the frame rails along with a new 6-speed automatic. Drivetrain options remained the same: rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. In 2008, a hybrid model also became available
Standard features for the 2007 model include a power rear lift gate, Side-curtain airbags, GM’s StabiliTrak system, Bose Surround Sound and Cadillac’s Auto Ride suspension.
The Escalade appeals to a lot of people – whether you’re an entertainer looking for attention or just someone who appreciates a cushy vehicle of mammoth proportions. It’s a distinctive vehicle that continues to be popular year after year.
